INSTAGRAM has launched a brand new app – and it’s available to download for free right now.
It’s called Edits, and it’s got bonus features that even the main Instagram app doesn’t have.

The app is out on iOS for iPhone, as well as on phones powered by Google’s Android software too.
You log into Edits using your existing Instagram account – but it’s a separate app.
Once you’re in, you’ll unlock some bonus perks that aren’t available on Instagram.
They’re all designed around video editing, likely to give Instagram fans a better chance to compete against TikTok rivals.
Special features include:
- Special ‘Made With Edits’ tag when you posted videos to Instagram
- Projects tab for organising upcoming videos
- AI-powered background editing
- Cut-out tool for editing specific parts of a clip
“With powerful editing capabilities, creative tools and actionable insights, Edits has the tools that you need to create videos, all in one place,” Instagram explains.
“Easily turn your ideas into videos, straight from your phone.”
Instagram says that the Edits app also includes a green screen function, AI image animation, longer capture, high-quality video exports, and “real-time insights” on your clip posts too.
You can snap videos with the app “up to 10 minutes”, and also access timers, countdowns, and a music catalogue.
“With Edits, we want to bring your entire creative process into one place,” said Meta’s Instagram boss Adam Mosseri.
“This is just the beginning – we’ve been building this alongside creators from day one, and we’ll keep listening to feedback to keep making the app better.
“Give it a try and let me know what other features you’d like to see.”
But that’s not all.

There’s also a more mysterious second benefit to having Instagram’s new Edits app.
Mosseri said that Edits will be used to test new features before they roll out to other Meta apps like Instagram and Threads.
That includes special AI features that haven’t been launched anywhere else.
INSTA-CHANGE?
It comes just days after a totally different Instagram app was rumoured for launch.
A special version of Instagram for iPad was rumoured to be in the works.
Instagram launched way back in 2010, the same year as Apple’s first iPad.
But iPad fans have always had to go without a proper Instagram app – even on the latest iPad models – instead being forced to use a stretched version of the iPhone one.
Sadly Instagram hasn’t confirmed any such plans just yet.

Separately, Instagram recently began testing a new type of secret video.
The special locked Instagram videos can only be watched if you type in the correct code.
It’s part of an experiment that could see video-makers testing fan loyalty be asking them to answer tricky questions about the creator’s life.
Unless you can type in the correct code, the image remains blurred.
