A figure to remember: 82,766. This is the number of copies sold to date for the mangaInoxtag, Instinctstatistics reported by Michel Lafon editions, which accompanies the young YouTuber, 22, in his new adventure. A figure acquired in a little over a week, obviously including the pre-order packs and their goodies (Instinct was also already number one on the Fnac and Amazon sites before its release) and which makes it a record start for a whole new manga series in France.

Record for a volume 1 in France
It is a question of clearly specifying the latter. In the past, works Kaiju N°8 (22,041 copies, October 2021) and Dragon Ball Super (17,299 copies, 2017) hit hard during their first week of release, with the record for the first mentioned. Volume 100 of Eichiro Oda’s work, released in December 2021, sold 131,270 copies in three days, according to Glénat editions. “If you want to make a manga, I’ll quit my job to help you”
While waiting for the sequel – and our upcoming review of volume 1 – Instinct already marks a new turning point in Inoxtag’s career. Three months of breaking the Internet with his documentary Kaizenin which he brings his ascent of Everest and his awakening to maturity to the public, Inès “Inoxtag” Benazzouz has accomplished another of his dreams: writing his own manga, having been immersed in this culture since he was little.
It is thanks to the audacity of Charles Compain in drawing, whom he met during the Agricultural Show in 2023 and who spontaneously offered him his services (“if you want to make a manga, I’ll quit my job to help you”) and the writing help of Basile Monnot, which the YouTuber was able to get started.
Instinctof which volume 1 only was released by Michel Lafon, tells the story of Haki, a 19-year-old young man, who is able to sense the aura and emotions of others. Suffering from an incurable illness, he meets a mysterious girl, Luna, who may have the ability to help him see a miracle cure as well as a better world… or almost.
