IONOS y Nextcloud have officially presented the IONOS Nextcloud Workspace office automation and communication platformmonths after the announcement at a Nextcloud event in Munich of its launch. Conceived as a European alternative to offers from American technology companies, such as Microsoft 365, the platform offers the necessary tools to perform office tasks and communicate between members of work teams and companies without neglecting data protection and security.
In addition, it complies with digital sovereignty standards, since the Nextcloud office and collaboration platform, with its elements, runs on the certified IONOS sovereign cloud infrastructure in German data centers. IONOS Nextcloud Workspace is based on Nextcloud open source technology, and is primarily aimed at public institutions, medium-sized companies and entities that have to meet high data protection and digital sovereignty requirements.
The platform combines different functions considered key for business environments: file storage (1 TB of space per user), email services (50 GB per mailbox with personalized email address) and calendar, video conferencing and an AI assistant configured with IONOS AI Model Hub. The AI assistant is responsible for automating recurring tasks, translating texts and generating images. It has a chat function that improves the efficiency of its use, while making it intuitive.
The platform’s applications can be used flexibly, both individually and as part of an integrated digital workplace. The software also allows the transition of existing systems to a comprehensive work environment. Nextcloud Workspace also works with the well-known Microsoft Office formats (.odt, .docx, .doc., .rtf, .ods, .xlsx, .xls, .csv, .xlsm, .ppt, .pptx, etc).
Both parties have confirmed that in the coming months they will add additional modules and services to IONOS Nextcloud Enterprise, such as advanced AI functions for document editing and analysis, an enterprise-grade cloud-based virus scanner from G-Data and integration with Data Center Designer, the graphical user interface for the IONOS cloud.
Achim Weiß, CEO of IONOShighlighted the platform that with IONOS Nextcloud Workspace, they offer «a truly sovereign office and collaboration solution for large businesses and organizations that value digital self-determination and the highest security standards«.
Frank Karlitschek, CEO of Nextcloudhas highlighted for his part that his association with IONOS «demonstrates that digital sovereignty and ease of use are not mutually exclusive. Here, two German companies are proving that sovereign alternatives to US or Chinese cloud offerings are not only possible, but already a reality«.
