Apple could be gearing up for a notable display upgrade with its upcoming iPhone 17 series. According to a new leak from tipster Digital Chat Station, the vanilla iPhone 17 is rumoured to feature a larger 6.3-inch display. This puts it on par with the iPhone 16 Pro in terms of screen size. Here’s everything we know so far about the iPhone 17 display upgrade.
As per a fresh leak posted on Chinese platform Weibo by reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, the base iPhone 17 will adopt a 6.3-inch OLED display. This might not be a big upgrade, but surely a notable one that gives extra screen space for watching content. This aligns with previous reports that suggest Apple plans to extend the Pro model screen sizes across the entire iPhone 17 lineup. In a recent leak, this was also confirmed by an accidental Amazon listing for Spigen’s EZ Fit screen protector.
Another major and most important upgrade that the iPhone is getting is an update to 120Hz. The base iPhones have suffered with 60Hz for the past years, and now Apple might finally give a smooth experience to the base users as well. According to the leak, Apple will equip the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air with 120Hz LTPO OLED screens, making interactions smoother and animations snappier. However, features like Always-On Display and adaptive refresh rates (1Hz–120Hz) are still expected to remain exclusive to the Pro models.
Another interesting tidbit is that all four iPhone 17 models might use Samsung’s M14 OLED technology. This is the the same tech that debuted on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. If true, this would be the first time Apple equips its entire iPhone lineup with the same premium display tech. This not only boosts brightness and efficiency but also could lead to better battery life and screen durability across the lineup.
Overall, the base iPhone 17 is really shaping up to be a huge upgrade and could bring solid value for users who prefer the base iPhone. All rumours hint at a new design, a lighter build with an aluminum chassis, and improved cameras, making the base iPhone 17 a well-rounded phone.
