Everyone has dropped their phone before and the consequences can be more or less serious. Every year, manufacturers try to provide answers to make their smartphones more resistant to falls or scratches that threaten your precious device. The subject concerns both accessible models, such as the Honor Magic 7 Lite, and premium models, such as the new Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. Just presented by the South Korean manufacturer, this model is equipped with a whole new generation of glass called Corning Gorilla Glass Armor 2.
Specializing in the manufacture of glass and ceramics, Corning equips many models on the market and attempts to make improvements every year. Gorilla Armor 2 is the mobile industry’s first scratch-resistant and anti-glare ceramic glass, as Samsung and Corning jointly explain in a press release.
What does Corning Gorilla Glass Armor 2 bring?
This new glass, tested in laboratories, is intended to be resistant to falls of up to 2.2 meters on a surface equivalent to concrete. According to the South Korean manufacturer, this level of resistance is much higher than that of other ceramic glass materials which do not withstand a fall of one meter. In order to convince people of the solidity of the Gorilla Glass Armor 2, Corning has published two videos on its YouTube channel.
The first concerns the level of resistance of the glass during a fall:

The second looks at scratch resistance and the new glass claims “exceptional scratch resistance”. It is more than four times more scratch resistant than competitive lithium aluminosilicate glass protectors with an anti-reflective coating. In its video, Corning applies a weight of 1 kg to competing glasses (and its Gorilla Armor 2) and 4 kg to its own glass. To top it off, sandpaper rubs the glass and Corning impresses in this test. Finally, Gorilla Armor 2 also greatly reduces reflections and the properties of this glass improve the contrast of the screen.
Great promises in the laboratory, but what about in the real world?
As promising as it is, the Gorilla Glass Armor 2 glass that equips the Galaxy S25 Ultra stands out for the moment in internal laboratory tests. We will wait until we have the latest Samsung models – which we have been able to handle – in testing to check the resistance level. If Samsung mentions a “technological feat in the field of ceramic glass” and one “significant progress” allowing us to offer an extremely robust Galaxy S25 Ultra, the manufacturer provides some details in the footnotes. We can read: “Corning® Gorilla® Armor 2 performance claims are based on Corning’s internal laboratory testing. Actual performance may vary. »
Indeed, many external parameters can call into question Corning’s promises, such as the fall angle or the surface area. Last year, the Galaxy S24 Ultra screen was popular in laboratories and during tests before experiencing mishaps among some users. In late 2024, Galaxy S24 Ultra owners reported that their phone’s screen protection was badly damaged or that the screen had cracks.
