Mazda will cover all these repairs under warranty and notify owners by the end of the year.
Mazda has issued multiple recalls for the two-row CX-70 and three-row CX-90, both of which may have been related to software issues. On October 31, 2024, Mazda reported several recalls to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), including defective dashboard electronics and software that could cause loss of propulsion power. Each recall includes thousands of 2024 through 2025 Mazda CX-90s and 2025 CX-70s.
The problem surrounding the dashboard electrical supply unit is the most widespread, affecting around 80,915 models. Mazda says that when the plug-in hybrid vehicles are started, the defroster, seat belt reminder, 360-degree camera system and high-voltage battery cooling system may not work. To resolve this issue, owners are notified to take their car to a Mazda dealer so that a technician can reprogram the dashboard ESU software. This will be done for free.
The other two recalls involve fewer CX-90 and CX-70 models, but are more serious because the defective software can lead to loss of propulsion power. One recall affects 30,488 models. Both the powertrain control module and the engine control module can fail, so they will need to be reprogrammed by a Mazda dealer. This is covered under warranty and the automaker says owners will be notified by December 30.
The same owner notification timeline and free resolution applies to the other recall. Mazda says 14,902 CX-90 and CX-70 plug-in hybrids have incorrect inverter software. This can cause the warning lights on the dashboard to malfunction and drive power to be lost in EV mode. Mazda says owners should make an appointment with their local dealer, who will install upgraded inverter software to resolve the problem.
