HBO Max has a huge selection of shows and movies from its partner networks, including HBO, Discovery, Food Network, and more. New shows and movies are added all the time, so here are my top choices for this weekend and the week ahead, plus everything new streaming below. This is a somewhat light week, with only a handful of new programs, but there’s still plenty to enjoy.
This Week on Max: PCMag’s Picks
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: Season 1 (Jan. 18)
Head back to Westeros with the second prequel series for Game of Thrones. This time around, HBO is adapting George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, about Ser Duncan the Tall and King Aegon V Targaryen in their youths. When his master dies, Duncan takes up his sword and picks a new squire, and the pair stumble through history together, unknowing of their future destinies. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms looks to have a somewhat lighter touch than the other shows, so it should be fun for fantasy fans.

Street Outlaws: Locals Only: Season 2 (Jan. 20)
If you’re into car culture, this Discovery series is a real treat. Oklahoma City-based street racers Sean “Farmtruck” Whitley and AZN hit the freeways to travel both America and Canada and track down eight of the best drivers from each region to have them face off in high-octane action, with the winner getting the chance to face off against a member of their crew for $5,000. It’s a cool peek at a world we don’t get to see a lot of.

Mel Brooks: The 99 Year Old Man! (Jan. 22)
One of the most important comedic minds of the 20th century, Mel Brooks started his career in the 1950s working with luminaries like Neil Simon, Woody Allen, and Carl Reiner. Starting his film career in 1967 with The Producers, he knocked out a series of hits over the next few decades, becoming an EGOT winner in 2001 with the Broadway adaptation of that movie. This two-part docuseries brings the funniest people alive to the table to pay tribute and explore Mel’s legacy.
