NEW YORK — Microsoft is experiencing a global software outage impacting Outlook, Word, Teams and other apps.
The company said on social media early Monday that the issue was being investigated.
“We have identified a recent change that we believe has had an impact,” the company later added. “We have begun the process of reverting the change and are investigating what additional actions are required to resolve the issue.
“We have begun implementing a fix that is currently being rolled out across the affected environment. As this progresses, we will begin manually restarting a subset of machines that are in poor condition.”
Word is part of Microsoft 365, the company’s subscription software service. Teams and Outlook are widely used in workplaces for video calls, chatting and emailing.
However, the company said early Monday that repairs were taking longer than expected.
“An ETA for a fix will be provided as soon as it becomes available,” the company said.
No other information has been released about the cause of the outage or its resolution.
According to DownDetector, the first problems were reported around 4 a.m. Eastern. Within hours, several thousand reports had been made.
An outage by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike caused a daylong disruption to the travel, banking, healthcare and other industries.
