MIKE McCarthy was given the VIP treatment by an NFL team looking to make him their next head coach.
The 61-year-old is out of a job after his Dallas Cowboys contract ended last week.
McCarthy couldn’t agree on the length of a new deal with owner Jerry Jones and is now a free agent.
And late last week he met with the Chicago Bears about their job vacancy.
According to WGN9 Chicago, the Bears treated him like a celebrity.
The local news outlet reported that McCarthy was flown in on a private jet for an in-person interview.
First interviews often happen virtually but the Bears pulled out all the stops with McCarthy.
He stayed in town overnight and was wined and dined, the report added.
But McCarthy is apparently not attracting a huge deal of interest from other NFL teams.
The New Orleans Saints are expected to meet with him this upcoming week.
But ESPN report that New Orleans doesn’t have an “urgent interest” in him.
The Jacksonville Jaguars, Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets also have head coach openings.
But WGN adds that none of those have made an enquiry about McCarthy.
The Bears have so far confirmed that they have interviewed 17 candidates to be their next head coach.
They include Super Bowl winners like McCarthy and Pete Carroll.
And current NFL coordinators such as Brian Flores, Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson.
Ex-running back turned Broadway star Eddie George also interviewed for the job.
Dallas, meanwhile, is also on the lookout for a new coach after McCarthy’s reign ended.
He had been in charge since 2020 and oversaw three straight 12-5 seasons.
But this year they finished 7-10 and the team are headed in a new direction.
Dallas has already interviewed Robert Saleh and Kellen Moore for the job.
Deion Sanders has also been linked, but he insists he’s happy at the Colorado Buffaloes.
