The French Aia company Mistral has announced that it expands its activity to the AI infrastructure with the Launch of a European AI cloud to compete against hyperscales such as AWS or Google Cloud. The platform, which Mistral Compute has called, is developed by Nvidia and focuses on offering European companies and governments an alternative to US cloud suppliers.
Mistral Compute It will work on 18,000 of the most recent Grace Blackwellwhich will be housed in principle in a data center located in Essone (France), although there are plans to expand them in Europe. The CEO of Nvidia, which has shown its commitment to collaborate with the development of AI infrastructure in Europe in Vivatech 2025 in Paris, has described the agreement that has reached with Mistral to launch the platform as a crucial step for Europe’s technological independence.
Nvidia has reached agreements with other European AI companies, such as Perplexity, both on infrastructure and related to development and training models in several European languages. Particularly, in languages in which training data are more limited.
Mistral Computer addresses two of the main concerns about the development of AI: the environmental impact and data sovereignty. The platform ensures that EU clients can maintain their information within the borders of the region, and under European jurisdiction.
In order to address the first aforementioned concern, Mistral has been associated with the National Agency for Ecological Transition of France and the Carbone 4 climate consultant to assess and reduce the carbon footprint of its AI models through its life cycle. In addition, Mistral plans to supply energy from decarbonized sources to their data centers.
