FURIOUS fans are fearing that the “MLS is dead” after the LA Dodgers secured a major $72million signing.
The World Series champions, who beat the Yankees 4-1 in October, have signed Tanner Scott to a game-changing four-year-deal.
The deal includes a $20million signing bonus and $21 million in deferred salary, per Mark Feinsand.
Scott, previously with the San Diego Padres, emerged as a standout performer in the 2024 season, earning his first All-Star selection.
The 30-year-old posted a remarkable 1.75 ERA across 72 appearances, including 84 strikeouts and 22 saves in 24 opportunities.
Scott’s arrival has left fans elsewhere worried about the possibility of the Dodgers dominating the MLB for the foreseeable.
Since winning the 2024 World Series, the Dodgers have signed Japanese baseball phenomenon Roki Sasaki, 23, over the weekend.
The right-hander, who has a fastball that tops 100 mph, joins the defending World Series champions in a stunning $6.5million move.
The California-based side have also added more fire power through Blake Snell, Michael Conforto and Hyeseong Kim.
And right-hander Blake Treinen, 36, has already re-signed.
Michael Kopech, Alex Vesia and Brusdar Graterol are among those also set to return.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan noted Los Angeles’ luxury-tax payroll for the upcoming campaign will exceed $375million following Scott’s signing.
That is $70million more than the second-highest paid team Philadelphia Phillies.
But fans have accused the MLB of allowing the Dodgers to destroy the competitiveness of the league.
One raged on X: “Dodgers are trying really hard to ruin the game.”
A second said: “Why should the other teams in the league even play next season?”
A third fumed: “Baseball is so dead” and a fourth said: “This isn’t even funny anymore, something has to give. They are signing everybody.”
While others wrote: “They are ruining the sport” and questioned: “When will this stop? It’s ridiculous.”
One more commented: “The Dodgers are going to single-handedly be the reason a hard salary cap is implemented.”
But another reasoned: “It’s not LA‘s fault that MLB doesn’t have a cap.”
