Synology has updated your storage management tool DiskStation Manager (DSM) to version 7.3with improvements focused on a greater storage efficiencysecurity and reliability, and new productivity features. The tool’s improvements also focus on boosting collaboration, for which they have incorporated AI.
One of its new functions, Synology Tiering, is responsible for automatic file management between different storage levels based on access patterns. This keeps frequently used data on high-performance storage and moves infrequently accessed data to more cost-effective tiers. It offers customizable policies based on modification time or access frequency, allowing you to precisely schedule when and how data movement occurs.
Synology DiskStation Manager 7.3 has also strengthened security, with the adoption of various industry-recognized risk indicators. Among them KEV, EPSS and LEV. In this way, users will have more protection against threats.
Office Suite also has improvements, with shared tags on Synology Drive, more simplicity in file requests, and improved file locking to facilitate team collaboration. As for MailPlus, it strengthens its security with email moderation, and adds domain sharing to unify identities in distributed infrastructures.
Since its launch in August 2025, Synology AI Console has been deployed on more than 430,000 Synology systems, enabling AI-powered collaboration and team management in on-premises environments. In DiskStation Manager 7.3 AI Console now also has custom data masking and filtering. This allows users to protect sensitive information locally before transmitting data to third-party AI providers, improving workflow security and reliability.
The DSM improvements are not going to stop here, since Synology AI Console will soon add support for all OpenAI-compatible APIs. It will do so in future versions, resulting in seamless integration with private AI infrastructures, and improving flexibility in deploying AI services with full data privacy and security.
Synology is collaborating with drive manufacturers to expand the range of certified storage media, and in the meantime, 2025 DiskStation Plus, Value, and J Series models running DSM 7.3 will support installing and creating storage pools with third-party drives.
Along with the already existing support for migrating third-party drives, DSM will offer users with this new version 7.3 Greater flexibility in managing your storage deployments. DSM 7.3 is now available for download.
