One of the features most valued by Waze users is its reports on traffic incidents. These allow drivers anticipate situations such as traffic jams, accidents or closed roads, adjusting your routes in real time to avoid mishaps. Google Maps is now taking advantage of this resource.
As reported by 9to5Google, Google Maps has begun to show traffic incidents fueled by Waze. The deployment of this novelty is being gradual, but the first screenshots have already appeared of what the pop-up window that users will see will be like when they receive this type of notice in navigation mode.
Navigation on Google Maps improves with Waze
As the development team of both applications pointed out in the middle of this year, the first notices are related to police alerts. A screenshot shared by a user indicates that “The police presence later”, and invites drivers to validate the information or ignore the message.
A detail that does not go unnoticed is that Google Maps will mention when the alert information comes from Waze. Remember that the updated Google Maps interface for iOS and Android also allows you to add traffic incident reports. Combining data should offer a better experience for users.
As time goes by, other types of alerts should arrive, such as accidents, traffic jams, road hazards, and more. For now, Google Maps benefits from this data after a decade in the hands of Google. The Mountain View giant bought Waze for more than $1 billion in 2013, but did not merge the apps.
Google Maps and Waze continued their path separately, adding their own new features and marking a certain difference from each other. However, Google decided to combine the development teams of both applications in 2022 under the name “Geo”. He did so in the midst of the severe restructuring carried out that year.
