Lenovo is reportedly set to showcase a laptop with a screen that can rotate from landscape to portrait at the upcoming IFA consumer tech trade show in Berlin next week.
According to seasoned hardware leaker Evan Blass, Lenovo has dubbed it “Project Pivo” and says the laptop will feature a 14-inch OLED display.
Rotating monitors of this type have long been available for desktops, allowing users to switch their screen depending on what they need, though this would be an industry first in the laptop world. For example, a vertical screen can let you keep more code or text on display at once without flipping the page, while horizontal screens can be better for media like film, TV, and gaming, which are still predominantly in landscape. There are also plenty of potential applications for video editors or web designers working across content aimed at both mobile and desktop audiences.

The hardware leaker also dropped news of “Project Ballet.” An AI-powered laptop stand concept uses the sensors of the connected laptop “to determine a user’s position and adjust the notebook in real time” for better ergonomics. It reportedly uses visual data from the laptop’s camera, as well as sounds from the microphone.
Though both leaks are as of yet unverified, we’ve seen Lenovo use the trade show to display daring experimental new laptop concepts before. Last year, the laptop giant showed off a prototype of a laptop with a transparent screen, dubbed Project Crystal, at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. Meanwhile, at last year’s MWC, we saw the prototype which would later become the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6. This is a high-end rollable screen laptop, which can extend from 14 inches to 16.7 inches on command.

Even if Project Pivo or Project Ballet do debut at the show next week—there is no guarantee they will ever make it to stores. The transparent screen the laptop giant showcased at last year’s MWC has yet to debut in real life.
