Edtech firm Multiverse and software giant Palantir have launched a partnership to upskill NHS staff with the goal of giving workers skills in AI and data practices.
The tech firms will work with health service staff on the use of the NHS Federated Data Platform (FDP).
Supplied by Palantir, the NHS FDP connects data from various separate systems to give staff access to key information in a centralised platform. The firm claims its use can support more operations and quicker discharges across the 77 NHS Trusts signed up to it.
Multiverse will supply the digital skills training, with the company’s background being in apprenticeships and upskilling programmes.
“To truly unlock the power of the NHS Federated Data Platform, the NHS needs a workforce that is confident and skilled in using data and AI,” said Euan Blair, founder and chief executive at Multiverse and son of former prime minister Tony Blair.
“This partnership isn’t just about implementing new technology, it’s about investing in the people who will use it every day to make a tangible difference to patient care.
“We’re proud to be a part of this crucial step in the NHS’s digital evolution, deepening our existing relationship with the NHS.”
Together, Multiverse and Palantir will create a suite of apprenticeship programmes focused on the FDP, with the first cohorts starting in February next year. Roles within the NHS that will be focused on include analysts, administrators, managers and clinical staff.
“The NHS FDP is already improving care for patients while cutting paperwork for doctors and nurses,” said Louis Mosley, executive vice president for UK and Europe at Palantir.
“Now we need to double down on training to keep driving up the number of NHS staff who are trained on the technology – and this partnership will be central to that.”
While Palantir has been able to secure lucrative partnerships with various government bodies, it has been the subject of considerable controversy due to its role in government surveillance, its ties to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the US and its involvement with the Israeli military in its war in Gaza.
