Never buy $1.25 common item at Dollar Tree – as there’s a better $3 alternative

SHOPPERS at Dollar Tree have been warned by an expert to never buy a common item on shelves.

While the retailer offers a selection of merchandise that’s easy on the wallet, some perform better than others.

That’s the case with the Circuit Super Heavy Duty Batteries seen for $1.25 at Dollar Tree’s over 9,000 locations nationwide, according to recent Facebook reel from consumer advisor Jeff Rossen.

“These aren’t regular batteries,” Rossen argued.

“Even though they’re called ‘super heavy duty,’ that’s like the code word, these are carbon zinc batteries.”

Rossen explained that carbon zinc batteries are not a dupe of top brands like Duracell or Energizer.

Carbon zinc batteries are typically used for low-energy-draining devices, like remote controls or clocks, and don’t have enough power to offer lasting charge for other things.

Those willing to pay an extra $1.75 should instead get the Circuit Alkaline Batteries, according to the consumer advisor.

“These last longer,” he emphasized.

Rossen again recommended Dollar Tree shoppers to be aware of the code words of “super heavy duty.”

He even flipped over the back of the packaging, which noted that the carbon zinc batteries were for “low-drain devices.”

DON’T MIX

“Never ever mix the carbon zinc with the alkaline batteries,” Rossen also stressed.

“It can be dangerous, stick with the alkaline.”

It’s accurate that there is some danger to mixing the battery types, as their differing internal chemistries could create an imbalance, per Microcell Battery.

That imbalance could lead it to leak battery acid, which is harmful, and whatever device the batteries are powering won’t work as well even if it doesn’t leak.

Some shoppers were surprised to know the difference between batteries at Dollar Tree.

“Oh you learn something new everyday and yes I mix them,” another added.

Others said they would continue buying the more affordable option.

“The cheap ones work fine in TV remotes,” a shopper wrote.

“They’re about the same none of them work long,” someone else echoed.

“I’ve been buying the dollar store batteries for many years. They work fine,” a third said.

Dollar Tree also has some summer essentials flying off shelves for low prices this month.

Shoppers raced to buy an “outdoor” favorite for only $1.25 at the chain that’s nearly identical to and way cheaper than Target’s version.
