Two weeks before the official release – December 11 in France, December 13 in the United States – Warner Bros. Pictures is not skimping on communications to promote one of the last highlights of the year 2024, the new film dedicated to the universe imagined and fictionalized by JRR Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim. A special feature film because it is an animated film, directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Blade Runner : Black Lotus et Ghost in the Shell : Stand Alone Complex), centered as its name indicates on the Rohirrim, the horsemen of the kingdom of Rohan, who were discovered during the second part of the trilogy of Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers and the Battle of Helm’s Deep.
But remember, the scene of Gandalf’s return and the charge of the Rohirrim at the end of the film. Aragorn’s speech. Theoden’s. Aragorn’s famous look towards the horizon. Gandalf’s legendary phrase: “Wait for my arrival at first light on the 5th day. At dawn look east.” And the rush of the horsemen of Rohan towards the army of Saruman. Yes, THIS moment.

The Rohirrim War takes place 183 years before the first trilogy by Peter Jackson – producer on this film – and recounts the adventures of the legendary king of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand – who will give his name to the ancient fortress of Hornburg, the famous chasm of Helm -, confronted by Wulf, a Dunlending lord determined to avenge his father’s death. In the middle, Hera, Helm’s daughter, decides to take up arms and tries to prevent the total destruction of her people.
Pippin and Merry return
The latest video published on the Warner Bros. Pictures account therefore has fun, between images here and there from the film, presenting us with the main voices of the original vocal casting. We obviously find Brian Cox at the forefront (Succession) who will lend her voice to Helm, Gaia Wise (A Walk in the Woods), who will play his daughter Hera and Luke Pasqualino (Snowpiercer) who will be none other than the vengeful Wulf.
Note for purists that we hear the voice of Éowyn, the niece of King Theoden of Rohan, who we discover in The Two Towers and sees in action in The Return of the King. Miranda Otto will once again bring the character to life, since it is she who will play the narrators – like Galadriel in Lord of the Rings — throughout the film. Finally, you should not blink while watching this “featurette”. At 0’38 seconds, we can see two familiar faces to fans of the Lord of the Rings : Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd, the live-action incarnations of the hobbits Merry and Pippin. Both are in the voice cast but in what role? You will have to wait until December 11 and the subtitled original version to find out.
