Next year’s iPhone lineup is expected to add the first ever foldable model, which may be called iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra. Today a new report from The Elec offers fresh updates on the screen sizes to expect from the iPhone Fold and the possibility of a delay.

iPhone Fold’s screen sizes could be smaller than expected, and supply constraints are possible

Japanese firm Mizuho Securities has shared a new research note offering its latest expectations for the iPhone Fold. As reported by The Elec, the significant new details revolve around screen sizes and launch timing.

Mizuho says the following iPhone Fold screen sizes are expected:

  • Outer display: 5.38 inches
  • Inner display: 7.58 inches

Both numbers are a bit lower than what prior reporting had indicated. We were previously expecting 5.5-inch and 7.8-inch displays, respectively.

Currently the smallest display on an iPhone is the 6.1-inch iPhone 16e. Out of the flagship models, iPhone 17 and 17 Pro have 6.3-inch screens, iPhone Air is 6.5 inches, and iPhone 17 Pro Max tops all at 6.9 inches.

When folded, the iPhone Fold will essentially be like a new iPhone mini.

The discontinued iPhone mini had a 5.4-inch display—nearly identical to the foldable’s 5.38 inches.

As for the inner display, 7.58 inches is a decent reduction over the previous 7.8-inch expectation. Though it will certainly still be the largest iPhone display ever, by far.

Mizuho also has concerns about Apple’s planned fall 2026 launch target.

It says the company’s extended finalization process for the design, and especially its hinge, could make supply run short.

Though a 2026 launch still seems very possible, Apple may not have as much supply as it initially hoped. If production runs into too many issues, however, the product could also get delayed into 2027.

We’re still a year out from the iPhone Fold’s expected launch, so there’s plenty of time for some of these details to change. But based on previous years’ timelines, we should expect to hear a lot more about the finalizing of Apple’s foldable iPhone plans before the end of 2025.

What do you think of the iPhone Fold’s rumored screen sizes? Let us know in the comments.
