Trailers work best when they give you a taste of the story without giving everything away. The first trailer for “Robin Hood” does exactly that, teasing enough intrigue and action to make you sit up straight for its 30-second runtime. Set to debut on November 2, 2025, on MGM Plus, the series puts a “fresh spin on the legendary tale.” It is led by showrunner John Glenn and producer-director Jonathan English, with Todd Lieberman serving as executive producer.
Rob is brought to life by newcomer Jack Patten, portraying a Saxon forester’s son whose world is thrown into chaos after the Norman conquest. His transformation from regular man into the leader of a rebel band unfolds alongside Marian, played by Lauren McQueen, the sharp-witted daughter of a Norman lord who favors political maneuvering over domestic pursuits. Their intertwining paths (and growing bond) propel the story, as each confronts the same corrupt system in very different ways.
The “Robin Hood” teaser lives up to its name, offering only a glimpse of the action and drama awaiting viewers when the full series premieres this fall.
Focusing on the bare essentials of the story, the trailer introduces “Game of Thrones” star Sean Bean as the Sheriff of Nottingham. He’s the scheming, ruthless antagonist, determined to keep the town’s poor under his oppressive control.
Joining the cast are Lydia Peckham as Priscilla of Nottingham, Steven Waddington as the Earl of Huntingdon, and Connie Nielsen as Eleanor of Aquitaine, who lends regal gravitas as the influential queen shaping the political landscape around Rob and his allies.
“Robin Hood” has been reinvented countless times over the years. U.K. viewers might remember him as a mystical figure in the 1980s cult classic “Robin of Sherwood,” a comedic foil in the 1990s children’s series “Maid Marian and Her Merry Men,” or a bold, roguish hero in the 2006 BBC dramedy that lasted three seasons.
Michael Wright, head of MGM Plus, said in a press release: “This is a new imagining of the classic tale of the roguish outlaw hero who stole from the rich and gave to the poor. It’s an exciting, smart, sweeping, romantic adventure that brings historical authenticity, psychological depth, and a heightened focus on the relationship between Rob and Marian to the beloved story.”
Lieberman added: “This reimagining will not only feature the thrilling action and adventure that audiences love, but it will also explore the complex human side of these famed characters.”
With its upcoming series, MGM Plus appears ready to stake its own claim, fusing grounded realism, stirring romance, and rebellious energy to give the legendary tale a fresh twist.
The 10-episode series premieres on MGM Plus on Sunday, November 2, 2025, launching with a special two-episode premiere. New episodes will then air weekly, leading up to the season finale in late December.
