On Thursday, it was reported by NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco that San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Demarcus Robinson is facing a potential three-game suspension.
The reason? It’s for a violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy, per the report.
Robinson penned a two-year, $8 million deal with the 49ers this offseason.
The latest news comes after Robinson was arrested for a DUI in November while he was a player for the Los Angeles Rams.
Robinson entered the league as a Chiefs fourth-round draft pick in 2016.
He was part of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl-winning squad in 2019.
Robinson’s career-best campaign came the following season when he recorded 45 receptions for 466 yards and three touchdowns in 16 games.
That would be his final season with the Chiefs, as he landed with the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2022 offseason before being cut.
Robinson then signed with the Baltimore Ravens before joining the Los Angeles Rams on a one-year deal in 2023.
He signed another one-year contract with the Rams in the following season.
In 2024, Robinson appeared in all 17 games for the Rams and posted 31 receptions for 505 yards, good for 16.3 yards per catch, and a career-high 17 touchdowns.
He wasn’t disciplined for his November arrest.
If the 49ers do indeed lose Robinson for three games, they can withstand the 30-year-old’s absence.
The team’s wide receiver is led by star Brandon Aiyuk, followed by Jauan Jennings, second-year player Ricky Pearsall, and rookie Jordan Watkins, among others.

Still, the 49ers will hope to see Robinson suit up in an offense led by Brock Purdy, who’s currently seeking a massive contract extension.
Fans reacted to the potential suspension of Robinson on social media.
“That’s a tough blow,” one wrote.
“The @49ers just can’t win,” another commented.
“Daaang,” a third added.
