It is said that Nicky Larson fear no one… Except censorship. When it arrived on French airwaves in the early 90s, the anime City Hunter adapted from the eponymous manga by Tsukasa Hōjō arrives in France with a different title but also a whole bunch of changes. Indeed, for the series to be broadcast on the show Club Dorothée intended for a young audience, it was necessary to calm the main character’s ardor in France. But now that the spectators of the time are well old enough to discover the series in its original form, it is unfortunately impossible to find… Or at least not for long!
The MANGAS television channel (notably available on CANAL+, Prime Video and the various internet service provider boxes) has just announced the arrival of a full HD and uncensored version of Nicky Larson starting February 23. The episodes will be broadcast on the channel from Monday to Friday at 7:40 p.m. and will then be available for replay. This sudden release is far from trivial since it accompanies the launch of a remastered and fully translated version of the game. City Hunter released on PC Engine 35 years ago. The title will be available on PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Switch on February 26.

What is Nicky Larson about?
For young readers who did not have the chance to discover the anime during its original broadcast from 1990 to 1995, or during the numerous rebroadcasts on NT1 or Game One, here is the synopsis of the series shared by the MANGAS channel:
“Nicky Larson is a hitman with a sulphurous reputation, feared by assassins, mafia bosses and criminals who terrorize Tokyo. But he has a weak point: women. And when he comes across one, he quickly loses his cool… to the great despair of Laura, his partner.”
Where to watch live-action works by Tsukasa Hōjō?
Since the French are particularly fond of Tsukasa Hōjō’s manga, some surprising live-action adaptations have seen the light of day in recent years. The feature film Nicky Larson and the Scent of Cupid by Philippe Lacheau, released in theaters in 2019, is unfortunately not available for streaming, but can be purchased or rented digitally on many platforms such as Apple TV, Prime Video or Canal+.
As for the TV series Cat’s Eyesthis is available directly from the TF1+ platform. As a reminder, a second season is currently in production and could well be released this year. To be continued.
