Nintendo is sticking to its sales predictions for the first year of the Switch 2, despite the console exceeding the company’s own expectations. The brand sold 5.82 million units of the Switch 2 by the end of June, and over 6 million to date according to Nintendo’s latest financial results. Back in June, Nintendo shared the console had sold 3.5 million units in its first four days alone.
The brand used its results to apologize to potential customers for the inconvenience of not being able to buy the console in markets where there hasn’t been enough stock. It said, “We will continue to strengthen our production and supply systems to deliver as much Nintendo Switch 2 hardware as possible.”
Despite the strong sales so far, the brand isn’t changing its sales predictions. It estimates it will sell 15 million units of the Switch 2 by the end of March 2026. That will see it beat the lifetime sales of the Wii U in under a year.
Nintendo says it doesn’t think US tariffs will make a “significant impact” on its earnings forecast. Nintendo unveiled its console days before US President Donald Trump introduced tariffs on countries around the world. The brand decided not to change the pricing of its console at that time, but it did increase the price of some accessories.
Nintendo produces its console in Vietnam, which yesterday saw the announcement of a 20% tariff for goods being shipped to the US. It’s unclear if Nintendo’s comments on tariffs continue to hold true given this change that saw charges move up from 10%.
Back in May, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said the brand will “consider adjusting prices” if tariffs change. This new change may see the brand have to adjust its prices for US customers, and Nintendo may be inclined to do so given the demand for the console despite a higher price than the original Switch.

The original Nintendo Switch continues to sell well with it hitting 0.98 million units in the same period. If that continues for the rest of the year, which is likely as retailers drop prices, it may take the title of Nintendo’s best-selling console ever.
Currently the Switch has sold 153 million units, while the Nintendo DS is its best-selling console at 154 million. It’s unlikely to catch the PlayStation 2, which remains the undisputed king of console sales at 160 million.
