A digital education platform for founders in the north of England has been launched by VCs in Manchester to address the funding gap outside of the South East.
The “library for founders in the North”, or Founder Hub, is a new initiative from Praetura Ventures and EHE Ventures as the Mancunian investors call for better access to scaling skills and managing early-stage businesses for founders in the north.
The platform consists of a digital archive of articles, videos and information from industry figures, including executives from Modern Milkman, Baltic Ventures, AccessPay and FinTech North.
“We want to give Northern founders the best start, but we saw lots of advice coming from the wrong places,” said Ben Davies, marketing director at Praetura Ventures.
“We quickly realised that there was no central place founders could turn to for advice and existing content was not tailored to the specific challenges in the region. It can often be poorly curated, out of date, or simply not backed by actual experience.”
Figures published by the Startup Coalition at the end of last year found that 80% of British VC funds are based in London, with 69% of their investments going to companies based in the South East.
The free-to-use platform was built over the last 12 months. Praetura Ventures will be announcing additional “high-profile” names supporting the archive in the coming weeks.
“We wanted to build a platform that’s relevant, accessible, and curated to suit a Northern founder’s needs. The Founder Hub will help offer real-world advice from those who’ve been there and done it,” added Aleksa Vukotic, group CTO at EHE Venture Studio.
