It’s been over a year since OnePlus impressed us with its first foldable, the OnePlus Open, leaving us eagerly awaiting the OnePlus Open 2.
The first Open was created in partnership with OnePlus’ parent company Oppo – at least as far as the foldable hardware was concerned. However, there was still plenty to mark the device as a clear OnePlus phone, from its cover display to the alert slider.
The unique Open Canvas multitasking UI also caught our attention, with the Open remaining our pick for the best foldable phone software to this day. The software allows you to use three apps in full-screen mode on the book-style foldable with a handy app toolbar displayed over other apps. You can also close the foldable and continue on the cover screen with a swipe, which we loved.
However, with the OnePlus Open 2 rumors quickly mounting, we’re ready to turn our attention to the Open’s successor. Keep reading to discover everything we know about the Open 2 so far.

OnePlus Open 2 rumored release date & pricing
The OnePlus Open 2 is expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2025 following the launch of the Oppo Find N5 in February.
One leak from Sanju Choudhary on X put the release as late as the second half of 2025, however, the tipster later responded to replies to amend that predication, stating that it looks as though the phone will appear earlier than he had initially expected.
Upon its launch last year, the OnePlus Open undercut the Pixel Fold and Samsung by a solid £150/$150, with a starting price of £1599/$1599 (compared to £1749/$1749 of the two competing book-style foldables). We expect that the OnePlus Open 2 will come in cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, which starts at £1799/$1,899.99 and the upcoming Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
OnePlus Open 2 design and screen rumors
If the OnePlus Open 2 is anything like its predecessor, it’ll likely be based on the Oppo Find N5 expected to launch later in February. OnePlus co-founder and CEO Pete Lau stated that the Find N5 will be “the world’s thinnest folding flagship” in a Weibo post in January, suggesting that the OnePlus Open 2 could be equally slim. The Honor Magic V3 currently holds the title of thinnest foldable at 4.35mm, so the Find N5 and Open 2 would have to undercut this to be considered thinner.
Oppo product manager Zhou Yibao has also teased the slimness of the Oppo Find N5 in a Weibo post that shows the upcoming phone next to an iPhone, as well as a stack of credit cards and some coins.
Despite its anticipated thinness, tipster Digital Chat Station has shared that the Find N5 (and thus, the Open 2) might be a bit heavier than its rivals. “The thinnest foldable is advertised, thickness <9.2mm, the lightest foldable is not advertised, weight >219g”, wrote the Weibo user (translated by Google Translate).
The leaker also stated that the phone will have a flat inner display and cover screen and that it’ll feature a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, along with a titanium alloy hinge.
Smartprix has claimed to have gotten its hands on an exclusive first look at the Open 2 in collaboration with two industry insiders, Yogesh Brar and Chunvn. The renders – which are apparently based on a late-stage prototype of the phone – showcase a refreshed design.
This includes a larger, thinner (under 10mm) design, the same circular camera module with three camera lenses and the Hasselblad logo, and an upgraded IPX8 rating. The renders also show an 8-inch 2K LTPO inner display with a 120Hz refresh rate, as well as a 6.4-inch AMOLED cover screen.
OnePlus Open 2 camera rumors
The aforementioned Smartprix report also mentions that the OnePlus Open 2 will feature a triple camera system. This could consist of a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a 50-megapixel telephoto lens with support for up to 3x optical zoom.
According to the report, the camera will feature a dual 32-megapixel and 20-megapixel sensor combination of front cameras for selfies and video calls.
Another report from Weibo tipster Smart Pikachu suggests the Find N5 (and so, the Open 2) will feature a telephoto macro lens. This is a feature that makes it possible to shoot macro shots from afar and something many mainstream rivals don’t offer in their telephoto cameras.
We absolutely loved the camera setup of the OnePlus Open. Co-developed with Hasselblad, the foldable has a total of five lenses, including a 48MP main, 48MP ultrawide and a 64MP telephoto, rounded off with a 20MP front camera on the main display and a 32MP sensor on the cover display. Hopefully, the Open 2’s camera will impress us just as much (if not more).
OnePlus Open 2 performance and software rumors
One rumour circulating about the OnePlus Open 2 is that it will be the first foldable to carry Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset in the US. That is, according to an Android Police report that points out the OnePlus Open 2 could be a rebranded version of the Oppo Find N5 in global markets.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite part again comes from the leak by Digital Chat Station, which also mentions support for 80W charging and 50W wireless charging on the Find N5 (and, assumedly, the Open 2).
That final detail has since been confirmed on the Find N5 by Oppo’s Zhou Yibao in another Weibo post, which is great news seeing as the first OnePlus Open lacked any wireless charging support.
Digital Chat Station has also hinted that the Find N5 (and Open 2) will pack a huge 5700 mAh battery, which is much larger than the batteries in competing foldables by Samsung and Google (via 9to5Google).
Trusted Take: What we think the OnePlus Open 2 needs
Let’s be clear: the OnePlus Open is easily one of the best book-style foldables we’ve tested. However, that’s not to say it’s a perfect handset and there are certainly some upgrades that we’d love to see on the OnePlus Open 2.
First and foremost, the OnePlus Open 2 seriously needs to get an improved IP rating, as its predecessor’s IPX4 resistance simply doesn’t cut it. Ideally, we’d be pleased to see it at least match the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 IP48 rating, although of course the higher the better.
We would also be keen for the hefty handset to be slightly more compact as at 245g, it’s not the lightest of handsets available. In addition, at 5.5mm thick, the OnePlus Open 2 may benefit from shaving a few inches off and match the 4.7mm thinness of the Honor Magic V2.
While the OnePlus Open’s battery is decent, able to get from 1-100% in just 46 minutes, what it’s lacking is convenient wireless charging support. Considering the OnePlus 12 features 50W AirVOOC wireless charging, this would be a seriously handy addition to the OnePlus Open 2.
We also think the OnePlus Open 2 should match the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s generous promise of seven years of Android and security updates, taking the handset up to a potential Android 22 (if it does come running on Android 15.) At present, OnePlus offers at least four years of Android upgrades with five years of security updates.
To further upgrade the already impressive displays, the OnePlus Open 2 should be fitted with OnePlus’ Aqua Touch technology, which allows users to interact with the phone even if it or their fingers are wet.
Finally, unlike a lot of big brands, OnePlus doesn’t make any claims about using recycled parts in its foldable, nor is the packaging recyclable. We’d love to see OnePlus offer some eco-friendliness to its OnePlus Open 2, both in the form of recycled or sustainable materials and with recyclable packaging.
