OVHcloud has managed to be selected as one of the companies awarded the contract for the OCRE (Open Cloud for Research and Education) framework 2024, launched in February 2025 by the pan-European Association of National Research and Education Networks GÉANT.
This contract, which has a duration of five years, will allow OVHcloud to become one of the official providers that will be able to offer sovereign cloud services to education and research institutions in nine European countries. Among them are Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and the United Kingdom.
The OCRE 2024 project seeks to improve access to the cloud for European institutions dedicated to education and research, through a collaboration that will provide them with facilities to contract and integrate cloud services adapted to the specific needs of the educational and scientific communities.
The OVHcloud group is also committed to accelerating innovation through the establishment of strategic alliances. Specifically, through a multi-year program focused on measuring environmental impact, as well as the Distiller project, which aims to develop new scientific methods and tools to reduce the environmental footprint of cloud-native applications.
It will also do so through the development of quantum computing, which it is carrying out through initiatives such as the purchase of Quandela’s MosaiQ photonic computer, a quantum system for R&D in different areas; as well as the development of the quantum platform Quantum Cloud Platform, which gives access to different quantum simulators.
John Gazal, Vice President of OVHcloud for Southern Europehas highlighted his satisfaction at having been selected by GÉANT regarding the achievement of this contract «as one of the official cloud providers to facilitate access to cloud resources for educational and research institutions. The adoption of a sovereign and trusted cloud is key for the European education and research sector. By participating in this pan-European initiative, OVHcloud hopes to contribute to an increasingly agile digital transformation.”
