It has been 106 years since Kōnosuke Matsushita laid the foundations of what we know today as Panasonic Group. However, as time passes, a concern grows in the japanese multinational: fewer and fewer people had the privilege of directly receiving the teachings of their founder.
Sooner or later, Panasonic will be made up of people who never knew Matsushita personally. But the company has found an opportunity to address this situation in generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). It will use this technology to transmit the philosophy of its founder to new generations.
The AI avatar of its founder
Panasonic is working with the PHP Research Institute (an entity created by Matsushita) to develop a digital version of its founder. The company has used a huge amount of Matsushita’s voice recordings encapsulated in dialogues, works and lectures to train the project’s underlying AI model.
The digital Matsushita will become one of the pillars of Panasonic’s management policy. The idea is that new employees can receive inspiration from the founding member through technology. But this will go further. According to the company itself, they will look for much deeper management suggestions.
Among the examples they mention we can find “how Matsushita would think” and “What kind of decisions would Matsushita make?” in various cases. Perhaps this may seem strange to some, but it is worth mentioning that the founder of Panasonic is a true legend in Japan. He is known as “the God of management”.

Panasonic plans to go one step further. Its founder’s AI-powered digital model will be just the first. The company imagines a future where they create AI digital models of other people based on images, photos, videos and audio. And they explain that they plan to do so under the principles of “responsible AI.”
