The tech industry of Paris is far from outcompeting London, despite recent reports suggesting otherwise, according to a leading UK investor.
Responding to recent findings, in particular a May report from Dealroom suggesting Paris had surpassed London as a startup hub, AlbionVC’s Ed Lascelles told UKTN that rumours of the city of light beating the big smoke have been greatly exaggerated.
Dealroom’s report ranked Paris above London as a global tech hub, in part because it found that between 2017 and 2024, the combined enterprise value of startups in Paris grew by 5.3x, compared with the 4.2x growth seen in London. This prompted some to suggest that the French capital was overtaking London as Europe’s top tech city.
Not long after the report, London and Paris both hosted their respective nation’s flagship tech industry events: London Tech Week and VivaTech, both of which saw the nations’ political leaders celebrate their successes and advocate for more growth….
