Software engineer Christina Ernst built a lifelike robot Remy that sits on her head and even pulls out strands of hair.
Someone wake up Heidi Klum; maybe she’ll have a costume contest this Halloween.
Ratatouille star Patton Oswalt was recently impressed with the latest creation from Google software engineer Christina Ernst, who runs the popular TikTok account She Builds Robots. “This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever done with my engineering degree,” she said in a video on Wednesday. “I wanted to make Remy Ratatouille for Halloween, but motorized to actually pull the hair.”
Oswalt, who voiced the culinary rat Remy in the 2007 Pixar film, reacted effusively to the resulting creation on social media, writing, “Oh my God, WOW, are you kidding me.” He also commented on Ernst’s Instagram share of the video, writing simply: “This. Is. BRILLIANT.”

Ernst went on to explain how she created the small motorized rodent, with its snatching arms and eager expression. “I 3D printed a rat with room for two sub-micro servo motors and then coded the arms to move randomly,” she said. “To avoid scalping myself, I first did a yarn test. Then came the moment of truth…”
And just like that, Remy is off to the races, playing Ernst dolls while cutting an onion.
In Ratatouillehairy foodie Remy helps lowly trash boy Alfredo Linguini (Lou Romano) in the kitchen of the esteemed restaurant Gusteau’s in Paris. He does this by pulling Linguini’s hair back and forth while hidden under the chef’s hat, moving his arms like a puppet so Remy can chop, stir, and season by proxy.
