LAST night’s State of Play featured more than 20 announcements for upcoming PS5 and PS VR2 titles, including a remaster of one of Sony’s most popular games.
Following the presentation, Sony has apparently doubled the price of the game even before its upgraded re-release.
Horizon Zero Dawn, which launched back in 2017 for the PS4, will get a fresh coat of paint for PS5 and PC on October 31, 2024.
The announcement confirmed earlier reports that the game was being remastered.
Owners of the PS4 version and the current PC port will be able to upgrade to the remaster for £9.99 / $9.99.
What’s drawing players’ ire right now, though, is that PlayStation has more than doubled the UK price of the original game on the PlayStation Store, apparently in view of its upcoming upgrade.
In the US, the game now costs exactly twice as much as it did yesterday.
Right now, the PS4 version of Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition is priced at £34.99 / $39.99.
Price history data on the game, gathered by websites such as PSPrices.com, shows that the title was selling at £15.99 / $19.99 before today’s increase.
Physical copies of Horizon Zero Dawn can still be found at a recommended retail price of £15.99 / $19.99 or lower via online retailers like Amazon.
Grabing one of these now could save you £10 / $10 when the remastered version releases.
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered will be selling at $49.99 when it launches at the end of October.
Before the remaster was announced last night, Horizon Zero Dawn was part of the PlayStation Hits lineup of games.
PlayStation Hits is a collection of popular older games that are selling at a hefty discount from their original launch price.
Games carrying the PlayStation Hits branding usually sell for £15.99 / $19.99, and the lineup includes many other PlayStation best-sellers.
PS4 titles like God of War, Uncharted 4, Batman: Arkham Knight, and Bloodborne are all part of the PlayStation Hits series.
The price increase only affects the PlayStation Store version of the game, while the PC port’s price remains unchaged.
At £39.99 / $49.99, Horizon Zero Dawn on Steam is still more expensive than the PS4 version’s new price.
