The Sony Honda Mobility Afeela electric vehicle will include support for PlayStation Remote Play, unlocking some of the best PS5 games from the road, the two Japanese giants have confirmed.
The Afeela 1, which arrives next year, will feature an infotainment system allowing gamers to access their home PlayStation console (PS4 or PS5) to play their games library while travelling. Drivers will be able to play when the car is in park, while passengers will be able to play from the back seat during the trip.
There’s support for the PS5’s DualSense controller and an integrated seat-back display. There’ll also be a premium audio system within the car so those top PS5 games will sound as well as look good. Gamers will need a broadband connection of at least 5Mbps at home, but 15Mbps would ensure smooth gaming. And then, naturally, the in-car connectivity would take care of the rest.
“The introduction of PS Remote Play embodies Afeela’s vision for mobility: transforming the traveling space into a captivating and emotional one,” said Izumi Kawanishi, the president of Sony Honda mobility. “Through this integration, we are elevating the customer’s entire travel experience to an unprecedented level of entertainment.”
The Sony Honda partnership was announced in 2022. 2026 will finally see it come to fruition when the Afeela 1 launches in California initially. We’re looking forward to seeing it hit the road. A bit of Gran Turismo while sitting in traffic certainly wouldn’t go amiss.
