It’s official, Dune is one of the intellectual properties that matter to Warner Bros. Discovery. Frank Herbert’s imagination shines alongside Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and DC productions. In an effort to make its subscription streaming offering more attractive, the company announced in July 2019 the creation of a series inspired by the book The Community of Sisters written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. At this time, Denis Villeneuve had to take charge of the project while he was already actively working on the development of the first part of his saga for the big screen. He will give up, but HBO and Max continue, aware that it is necessary to take advantage of the light shed on the science fiction universe to make a profit. The first season has visibly achieved its objectives, Alison Schapker’s series is offering a second round of episodes.
According to the HBO press release, 15 million viewers watched the first episode around the world. Bridging the gap with the Dune saga?
This will not have escaped the worshipers of Dune by Denis Villeneuve, the director aims to continue the journey in cinema. Now that Paul Atreides is well established on the throne, to the great dismay of the sisters, the narrative should be about describing the consequences of his takeover. The Messiah of Dune — Frank Herbert’s second work — immerses readers twelve years after the end of the war. He is threatened from all sides, his enemies are numerous. The Space Guild, the former Imperial House Corrino but also and above all the Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam. Paul knows when and how they will strike, how they will try to take the Spice back from him.
With Dune : ProphecyMax has a golden opportunity to delve deeper into the Bene Gesserit’s history and show the organization’s distrust of Paul in a new light. The character of Desmond Hart is also a way for the series to focus on the figure of Kwisatz Haderach, and how the sisters use this chosen one to establish their dominant position in the universe.
