PS3 emulation has been a thing for PC gamers for a long time now. And with the recent rumors going on in the industry, it has been revealed that the same could soon reach PS5 as well. The studio behind the PlayStation Classic ports on PlayStation 5, Developer Implicit Conversions has listed an official roadmap on their website.
The roadmap is related to the research and prototyping of the possible inclusion of the PlayStation 3 emulator package for Syrup, the engine that backs the PS Classic ports. It also has a “Dreaming About” tag which could mean that the native PS3 emulation may be released after a long time, maybe years.
PS3 emulation on PS5: How far it is from reality?
Talking about the current scenario, PlayStation 3 Classics titles are available on PlayStation 5 with the PlayStation Plus Premium subscription that is only playable through cloud gaming. Now, coming back to the emulation part, things are a little skeptical when it comes to PS5 emulating PS3 games on a native basis.
In a report published by Wccftech, it was revealed that the tests were conducted for the same in December 2024 using AMD BC-250. It was confirmed that the PS5 hardware was able to run games like Gran Tourismo 5 and Little Big Planet at higher than the original resolution. Furthermore, the same happened with a few hardware limitations like memory limitations due to driver issues.
Now, the reaction of the gamers who want to feel nostalgic will always remain positive. However, the feat could take a long time to manifest as the PS5 Pro is already here and we can scarcely expect to see any major update like PS3 Emulation. On a concluding note, we will keep you updated.
