In a digital landscape where many organizations still struggle to establish strong artificial intelligence frameworks, the Qlik AI Council stands out based on its commitment to the responsible, strategic and effective use of AI in data and analytics, according to Nina Schick (pictured, right), founder and chief executive officer at Tamang Ventures Ltd. and AI Advisory Council Member at QlikTech International AB. The Council serves as both a watchdog and guide, ensuring that AI remains at the forefront of technological innovations while being anchored in ethical standards, data trust and practical accountability, she added.
Qlik AI Council’s Kelly Forbes, Rumman Chowdhury and Nina Schick talk with theCUBE about its role in enhancing ethical AI practices.
“You need to have the 3D view,” Schick said. “It isn’t something that just exists in isolation in business practices, but amongst us, we cover ethics, geopolitics, science, as well as how to interact with the business community and the applied applications of AI right now. I think that generally is something that all business leaders are starting to understand, that you cannot view AI and its development in isolation just as simply that’s a business transformation process. It’s something far more profound than that.”
Schick, Kelly Forbes (left), president and executive director of the AI Asia Pacific Institute and AI advisory council member at Qlik, and Rumman Chowdhury (center), chief executive officer and co-founder at Humane Intelligence, spoke with theCUBE’s Bob Laliberte at Qlik Connect, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, News Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how the Qlik AI Council enables human-centered and trustworthy AI development. (* Disclosure below.)
Qlik AI Council drives interdisciplinary collaboration on responsible AI
AI adoption represents both a technical evolution and a societal shift, making interdisciplinary collaboration essential. The Qlik AI Council is helping to drive this effort by uniting ethical frameworks, domain expertise and diverse perspectives to support the development of effective, fair and future-ready AI, according to Forbes.
“I think it’s not about the effects of the technology on people, but how we are responding to it,” she said. The people that are really going to thrive this year are the ones that are learning alongside technology … the importance of also having an interdisciplinary environment as you do that. I think the AI Council is an example of how Qlik has managed to bring so much diversity into the same room.”
The Qlik AI Council fosters trust in AI applications by ensuring that AI is developed and deployed responsibly, ethically and transparently. These guardrails help enterprises gain confidence that the AI will not cause harm or introduce bias, according to Chowdhury.
“One of the key tenets being trust,” she said. “Everybody has to build trust with their consumers, whether it’s Qlik with their partners or whether it’s the partners with their consumers. I think one really important part of the Qlik AI Council is giving advisory and giving input on how to build trust with the organizations.”
By bringing together experts from diverse fields, the Qlik AI Council fosters well-rounded perspectives that guide AI design. This multidisciplinary approach plays a crucial role in ensuring that AI development remains user-centric and inclusive, Chowdhury noted.
“Everybody in the board, everybody in the council, we’re from very different backgrounds and we work on different parts of AI,” she said. “One of the values of this group is that we bring a wide range of different perspectives, and I appreciate that Qlik values that, so this constantly receiving diverse and different information, maybe outside of the project immediately in front of you or the path immediately ahead, really helps you to have a more global and holistic vision of where this technology is headed.”
