Redmi might soon set a new benchmark for smartphone battery life. A fresh leak from China hints that the company could be preparing a phone with a massive 9,000mAh battery – one of the largest capacities ever seen on a mainstream handset. The leak comes from popular tipster Digital Chat Station, who claims that a certain Chinese brand has finalised a 9,000mAh single-cell silicon battery that supports 100W fast charging. The same source adds that the brand is also testing an even bigger 10,000mAh version in its labs, though that’s likely still in early stages. While the tipster didn’t mention a specific brand or model name, Chinese outlet MyDrivers believes the leak could be linked to the upcoming Redmi Turbo 5 series. The lineup is expected to arrive between December and January and could mark Redmi’s next big push in the mid-range segment.
However, there’s some uncertainty around the actual battery specs. Another report citing the same tipster earlier this week suggested the Redmi Turbo 5 might instead feature a 7,500mAh battery. Older leaks, though, have mentioned a 9,000mAh+ unit – indicating that the larger pack could be reserved for a higher-end variant or perhaps an entirely different Redmi device.
Performance-wise, the Redmi Turbo 5 is rumoured to debut with MediaTek’s new Dimensity 8500 chipset, built on TSMC’s 4nm process. The chip is expected to feature an octa-core CPU with Arm Cortex-A725 cores clocked up to 3.4GHz and a Mali-G720 GPU running around 1.5GHz.
For users seeking extra power, the Turbo 5 Pro might raise the bar with either the Dimensity 9500e or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. The Dimensity 9500e, in particular, is tipped to pack a Cortex-X925 prime core, an Immortalis-G925 GPU, and hardware-level AI enhancements – setting up a potentially powerful mid-range contender.
