In 2017, Apple launched a brand new app called Clips, a creative video app that originally could only make square aspect ratio movies. It had fun effects, automatic subtitle captions, and more. However, in a world of social video apps like TikTok, Clips never really gained traction.
After being dormant in the App Store for a while now, the company is finally pulling the plug. As confirmed by a new support document, Clips is no longer getting any app updates and has been pulled from the App Store.
If you were an avid user of Clips, you will still be able to redownload it on an iOS 26 iPhone or iPad, and use it to export your videos into another application. However, there are no guarantees that the app will keep working beyond iOS 26.
With Clips officially dead, Apple technically still makes another consumer video editing app for the iPhone: iMovie.
However, iMovie for iOS has not been updated since December 2024. Even then, that only comprised a smattering of miscellaneous bug fixes. Realistically, iMovie hasn’t received major new features since 2023. Is iMovie also reaching end-of-life?
Other Apple apps yet to be updated for the new operating systems include Pages, Keynotes and Numbers, the iWork suite (last updated April 2025). We are also waiting for the Apple-acquired Pixelmator Pro and Photomator to get a Liquid Glass update …
