US EV car manufacturer Rivian is currently rolling out its latest software update (2024.35), which includes several new features to keep drivers, passengers and equipment safe. Additionally, Rivian posted a video teasing a new Knight Rider-inspired theme for the front lighting, just in time for Halloween.
It’s been less than a month since Rivian rolled out its last major software update, but while the previous version focused on speed and a new “Launch Mode,” the automaker’s latest upgrade is focused on safety.
Update 2024.35 is rolling out to all generations of Rivian’s flagship R1T and R1S EVs and includes a number of exciting new upgrades. For starters, Rivian has introduced a live Gear Guard Cam into a remote security system that already includes high-resolution cameras around the vehicle and physical cables that secure the equipment.
Following the latest update, Rivian owners can now tune in live to their Gear Guard cameras anywhere from the Rivian app (Connect+ subscription required). This can come in handy after an R1T or R1S owner receives an alert so they can quickly access the cameras and see what’s happening.
Rivian also said it heard its customers loud and clear and that it has updated its adaptive beam technology, building on Adaptive High Beams launched last month in its Gen-2 (2025) models that automatically adjust the brightness of a Rivian EV based on what his senses do. around it. The new feature can now create a stable light distribution from the car’s headlights regardless of the position of the EV, allowing drivers to see straight ahead in the dark, even on bumpy terrain.
Other Rivian updates and incoming Knight Rider lights
Rivian’s software update 2024.35 also includes an enhanced climate zone feature. Until now, Rivian’s R1 models have featured two different HVAC climate zones for the driver and front passenger.
However, with the latest update, Rivian has introduced a third climate zone in the second and third row passenger seats, expanding personal comfort for all passengers in the vehicle. In addition, rear passengers can view and adjust their temperature settings from the rear display in the second row.
Finally, Rivian’s latest software update includes new display animations to help drivers more easily visualize changes in their ride height, brake regeneration, stability and driving feel in different driving modes.
Once you download the latest OTA update, you’ll notice that every time you update any of the above settings, a new animation will appear that shows useful visual information about the change and how it affects your vehicle.
On a brighter side of the Rivian updates, the automaker recently started teasing a new headlight feature coming in October that pays tribute to Knight Rider and turns your pickup or SUV into a fully electric version of the KITT series.
Rivian posted the following video to social media this week, which teases the fun lightning feature and features a brief cameo from the original Knight Rider himself, David Hasselhoff:
