The accounting, finance, human resources and payroll technology software and services company for SMEs Sage has opened a new global hub in Barcelona. Es the third party in the companywhich already has two in the United Kingdom and the United States. Specifically, in the towns of Newcastle, where Sage is headquartered, and Atlanta.
This new hub, located in the 22@ innovation district of Barcelona, occupies 3,600 square meters, and more work has already been done on it. of 650 people of more than 40 nationalities. Among them there is an important part of specialists in data science, engineering and development of AI and cybersecurity, which highlights the hub’s ability to attract talent internationally.
The focus of this new Sage innovation space will be on the development of new technologies and services linked to Artificial Intelligence worldwide. In addition, this hub will be an important piece for the growth of the company’s business, both at the Iberian and global level. Sage plans to increase the workforce of this new hub by around 10% annually on a sustained basis in the medium term, with the aim of boosting its role as a talent acquisition centre.
Various Sage executives were present at the inauguration of the hub, including Aaron Harris, the company’s CTO, Derk Bleeker, Commercial Manager of Sage, and Jose Luis Martín Zabala, General Director of Sage Iberia. Various regional and local institutional representatives also participated in the event, as well as different representatives of public administrations, the world of associations, the technology industry and the academic field. During the inauguration of the hub, two round tables were held on the challenges and opportunities of AI, and on how this technology is generating an evolution and a redefinition of the value of talent.
Derk Bleeker highlighted the opening of the Sage hub that «This project represents much more than the inauguration of a technology center. “It symbolizes a strategic commitment, a deep involvement with Spain and Catalonia, and a shared vision of the future of innovation.”
As for José Luis Martín Zabala, he has valued the company’s experience in Catalonia, a region in which the company has had a presence for four decades, “and now with this new milestone we take a very important step in this trajectory, convinced that we are going to continue adding thanks to the innovation ecosystem that Barcelona has, and that it will allow us to continue advancing and collaborating with the best universities and attracting the best international talent.
