Real commercial successes since the launch of the first model in 2023, Ray-Ban Meta connected glasses are preparing to have a serious competitor in the coming months. After Meta, Amazon, Xiaomi and HTC, it is now Samsung’s turn to enter the fray and try to encroach on Meta’s approximately 82% market share.
It was during an interview with CNBC that Jay Kim, executive vice-president of Samsung’s mobile branch, indulged in some confidences about the Korean giant’s next big project. Expected for this year, Samsung’s connected glasses will be entirely dedicated to AI and will serve as a natural interface to interact with Gemini or ChatGPT.
The idea would be that we speak with the AI and that the cameras, integrated into the lens frame, serve as a visual input source for the smartphone. Because no, these Samsung branded glasses will not be autonomous at all. They will require a Samsung Galaxy smartphone to process all the data captured by the camera.
“The important thing is that the AI understands where you are looking in order to transmit the information to the phone, which then processes it and provides you with information”explains Mr. Kim in the interview.
Fruit of a collaboration with Google and Qualcomm
These glasses, the name of which we do not yet know, are therefore planned for 2026, but we also learn that Samsung is working on their design in close collaboration with Google and Qualcomm. Qualcomm manages the chips, Google the Android XR operating system and Samsung the hardware architecture for mixed reality. Together, the three industry giants notably marketed the Samsung Galaxy XR in 2025, a mixed reality headset which looks exactly like the Apple Vision Pro.
For tech and AI giants, the connected glasses market is probably the most buoyant and promising in recent years. Unlike mixed reality headsets which will remain a niche product, connected glasses could quickly become a mainstream product. According to Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon, the glasses “are close to our eyes, our ears and our mouth — this is where agentic AI experiences will occur (of tomorrow, Editor’s note.)”.
