Shrinking is one of Apple TV’s biggest hits, and it’s set to conclude its third season in just a few days. Here’s what to expect from the show going forward, according to co-creator Bill Lawrence.
Shrinking season finale this week
You’d be mistaken if you thought last week’s episode of Shrinking was the season finale … though you wouldn’t be alone in that mistake. It was the tenth episode of the season, so I assumed it was the finale — as did many people across social media.
Thankfully, that’s not the case.
Shrinking’s third season was initially supposed to be twelve episodes. The episode count dropped to eleven in favor of season debut being a special “double” episode instead.
So, the eleventh and final episode of Shrinking’s third season will hit Apple TV on Tuesday night.
And if you want even more good news, Apple renewed Shrinking for a fourth season in January.
In a post on Threads this week, Bill Lawrence, one of the creators of Shrinking, teased what to expect.
According to Lawrence, the season three finale of Shrinking will mark “the end of this story.” Looking ahead to season four, he says we can expect a “new story” and new chapter to begin.
“Season 3 finale and the end to this story next week! Thanks for watching if you did,” Lawrence wrote. “So grateful to do a new story starting next season.”
It doesn’t come as a surprise that Shrinking season four will focus on a new story. Lawrence previously explained that the show was conceived as a three-season arc. The first season was about grief, season two was about forgiveness, and season 3 is focused on moving forward.
In a follow up post, Lawrence said that the fourth season of Shrinking will have the “same ensemble” cast as the current season. Whether that includes everyone from the current cast remains to be seen … season three’s finale might offer some insight into that, though.
