While Apple is taking time to offer its Apple Intelligence AI in France, Google is seizing the opportunity to offer Gemini on iPhone. After a period of exclusivity on Android, the AI personal assistant is now available on the App Store around the world, including in France. It is now possible to use ChatGPT’s competitor on Apple smartphones, offering an interesting alternative to all owners of recent iPhones. Unlike future Apple Intelligence functions reserved for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16, Gemini can be installed on all models equipped with iOS 16 or newer.
However, there is no specific version for iPad.
Gemini Live comes into action on iPhone
The iPhone application allows you to speak with Gemini Live in a more natural way than with a traditional assistant. It is possible to interrupt to ask questions or change the subject. As on Android, it is possible to personalize Gemini’s voice by choosing from 10 different voices.
From the application, we also access Google’s AI to understand and generate text, answer questions in an advanced manner or even generate creative formats (poems, code, emails, letters, etc.). The assistant also integrates with other Google applications such as YouTube, Maps, Gmail or Calendar using extensions. Finally, it can analyze documents, spreadsheets or images in its Advanced version. The paid version costs 21.99 euros/month in France and offers access to the 1.5 Pro model, as well as priority access to the latest Gemini features. There is also 2 TB of Google One storage space and extensive integration into Gmail or Docs.
A new, smarter Siri is coming in 2025
Compared to ChatGPT and now Gemini, the Siri assistant pales in comparison. Apple still has plans for its assistant launched in 2011 and plans to bring it into the era of generative AI with a large language model. Mentioned during WWDC 2024, the new “intelligent” Siri should arrive early next year.
