In addition to the releases today of updated Endeavour OS and CachyOS, Solus 4.8 is out as the latest version of another desktop Linux distribution popular with enthusiasts.
Solus 4.8 is out today and features their big epoch in finishing their /usr merge and removing Python 2 and in turn also a big update to systemd.
Solus 4.8 also gets rid of their Solus Software Center app in favor of relying on GNOME Software or KDE Discover, respectively, depending upon your desktop choice.
Solus 4.8 also now uses the Plymouth boot splash screen by default. While Solus boots fast on modern hardware, Plymouth was finally added for a nicer interface for handling offline updates and more.
This updated Linux distribution originally known for its Budgie desktop environment has also a plethora of software upgrades. There is the Linux 6.17 kernel, systemd 257, Firefox 145, Mesa 25.2.6 graphics drivers, and more. Plus the Budgie 10.9.4 desktop alongside GNOME 49 and Plasma 6.5.3.
