Netflix subscription scam details
The main agenda behind the same is to dupe the Netflix subscribers and make them give their account credentials or credit card details. According to the same report, it has been mentioned that hackers are using two different ways to pull of the scam.
First one is the carrot in which they are promising the people to reward something. The second one is the stick method in which the hackers are inducing fear amongst people to trigger immediate action. The most common threat being used to carry the scam is that the users will lose their Netflix account access if they don’t take an instant action.
It is being said that the scam begun in September 2024 and it is still active in multiple regions all over the globe. As of now, the scam has spread its wings in over 23 countries including Australia, Greece, Portugal, France, United States, Spain, and a lot more.
The most common message that the scammers are using in the Stick method is, “There was an issue processing your payment. To keep your services active, please sign in and confirm your details at: https://account-details(.)com”
As for the messages, they consist of a malicious link that takes the users to a fake Netflix login page. As soon as the user visits the prompted site they are supposed to enter the username, password, credit card credentials, and more.
To make sure that you are safe from the scams, keep a check on a few things. Firstly, Netflix never sends account-related notifications via SMS. Don’t open any messages that are poorly written or contain links that have unidentified characters.
