A new version of the popular Resident Evil game is coming to mobile phones. Resident Evil: Survival Unit has just been announced for iOS and Android, and it’s not your usual zombie shooter. This time, it’s a real-time strategy game, being developed in close collaboration with Capcom — the original creators — to keep things authentic and true to the series’ tone.
The game is being co-developed by Joycity Corporation, a Korean mobile game studio known for another licensed RTS, Pirates of the Caribbean: Tides of War. If you’ve played that one, you can expect something similar in terms of gameplay — just with way more zombies and bio-weapons.
Publishing duties are being handled by Aniplex, a Sony-owned anime and game company, and the game is set to be released across Japan, South Korea, North America, Europe, and Asia.
Early Clues About the Setting
While full details will be shared during an online showcase on July 10, a single piece of teaser art has already given fans something to chew on. It shows a dark, wooded area with a vehicle parked near a billboard advertising the infamous Umbrella Corporation — tagline: “Our Business is life itself…”.
If you’re familiar with the Resident Evil universe, this likely places the timeline before the fall of Umbrella, possibly around the events of the original games. Some fans are even speculating this could be near the Arklay Mountains, not far from Raccoon City — the site of many outbreaks in the early games.
What to Expect from Gameplay
The game will reportedly involve guiding STARS commando teams through dangerous environments, probably while managing resources and making quick tactical decisions. So rather than playing as one character, you’ll control a unit of survivors, possibly familiar faces from earlier games, and try to keep them alive.
According to the developers, Survival Unit is designed to be approachable for long-time fans and new players alike — which suggests a mix of nostalgia and accessibility.
Launch And Reveal Details
We’ll know much more on July 10, when a full reveal of Resident Evil: Survival Unit goes live on YouTube. Until then, fans can only speculate about what’s in store — but one thing’s clear: the world of Resident Evil is expanding once again, and this time, it fits in your pocket.
