TCG Pocket has just reached its one month anniversary, but it already has millions of people logging in every day.
Like all of Pokémon’s apps, there is an emphasis on the social elements and you’ll interact with other players every time you play.
You can send friend requests to complete strangers that you battle or copy a card from via Wonder Pick.
Your friends can then like cards from your collection and give you free shop tickets for extra items.
It’s impossible to play TCG Pocket without interacting with other players, whether you just collect cards, or battle with them as well.
This means that most people see dozens of usernames every day, and some have complained about ones they’ve seen.
Games often have profanity filters for usernames to make sure that rude or taboo words cannot be used.
However, it appears that TCG Pocket’s automatic censor was more of a slacker than the developers would have liked.
So now TCG Pocket is warning players whose names have caused others “discomfort” to change them or risk losing their collections.
The statement reads: “We are aware of multiple player names that are currently causing discomfort to other users.
“In accordance with the Terms of Use, we will change player names on accounts in question and will warn them, suspend their accounts or take other action.”
The announcement is vague and it’s unclear what exactly will happen to these players’ accounts, or which usernames are considered “discomforting”.
If you are worried that your account could be considered inappropriate, you can change your username via the profile page to avoid other repercussions.
Keep in mind that you can only change your username once every 30 days, so make sure you choose wisely.
What’s in a name?
TCG Pocket’s name restrictions might have been lax at first, but a month of collecting is not worth risking for a silly name.
You can still maintain your account and all of your cards even if you change your name, so it’s worth doing so if you suspect your account is at risk.
