Telefónica has launchedin collaboration with 112 of Extremaduraand service focused on streamlining, facilitating and making emergency interventions more reliable. Of course, the service, which uses the latest in network and communications technologies, is still in its pilot phase.
Specifically, the system uses a reserve of resources on Telefónica’s 5G+ network with Network Slicing technology, as well as a walkie talkie or Push to Talk solution in the cloud. Thanks to this, the emergency units of Extremadura’s 112 can exchange audio, video and location during their rescue and rescue tasks. In this way they can guarantee coordinated, fluid, priority and real-time communication.
The solution developed by Telefónica enriches traditional walkie talkie communications, that is, voice-only communications and in limited groups, providing video calls, secure exchange of messages and video, visualization of the location and status of people and team units. emergencies, among other possibilities. All of this is also monitored from a control center and deployed as an end-to-end solution.
This Telefónica solution will also be complemented by the ruggedized 5G+ terminals that the rescue teams will carry. In this way, its use in adverse conditions with extreme temperatures is guaranteed. They will even allow immersion in water. In addition, they can be used with gloves and can even be attached to different parts of the body.
This combination of technologies in emergency services that Extremadura’s 112 will use is a pioneer in Europe. Among other technologies, as we have mentioned, it uses Network Slicing, one of the features of 5G+ that allows a portion of the network resource to be dedicated to emergency services, so that the network can be used even in times of possible congestion, both in areas urban and rural. In addition, a Push To Talk solution, or walkie talkie, from Telefónica has been deployed over the cloud.
According to Manuel Velardo, Director of Telefónica in Extremadura«This project is a clear example of how technology and innovation are put at the service of people with the aim of helping to facilitate and speed up rescue and rescue operations.«.
