Telefónica this finally making known how many employees of its staff will be affected by the ERE announced a few days ago for the seven companies of the Group. For now, the effects are known for five of them: Telefónica España, Telefónica Móviles, Telefónica Soluciones. Movistar+ and Telefónica Global Solutions.
In total, in the first three, 5,040 employees will be affected, as the operator has communicated to the three representative unions in them during the first meeting of the ERE negotiating table. Of them, 3,649 people would leave Telefónica de España (41.04% of the workforce), 1,124 people from Telefónica Móviles (31.34% of the workforce) and 267 people at Telefónica Soluciones (23.89% of the workforce).
The company has justified the ERE in all cases on organizational, technical and production causes. If applied in its entirety, as proposed, these three subsidiaries of the Group would go from having 13,597 employees to having 8,557 workers.
However, it is common for these numbers to tend to drop during the negotiation process, which has already been left open and will probably last approximately one month. Thus, in the company’s last ERE, 33% fewer employees finally left the company than initially announced.
The groups affected by these will be, as confirmed by Telefónica, its employees born between 1969 and 1971 and turning 57 years old, and the departures will occur in a staggered manner. Thus, in 2026 those affected born in 1969 would be released, in 2027 those born in 1970 and in 2028, those born in 1971.
Initially, according to the unions’ requests, the departures would be voluntary, although if Telefónica does not agree with the departures produced in this way, it could opt for forced dismissals, something with which the unions would not agree. We will also have to wait for those affected to know the conditions of the departures, which for now have not been made public, so that they can assess whether they accept the ERE voluntarily or not.
After knowing the exit figures for these three companies, Telefónica is detailing those that will affect the rest of its subsidiaries in successive meetings with the unions. At Telefónica Global Solutions, the group wants to lay off 140 of its 638 workers, 21.94% of its workforce, while at Movistar+, the departures would affect another 279 workers, around a third of its workforce, made up of 860 people (32.45%).
In total, until now, without knowing the scope of the ERES in the other two Telefónica Group subsidiaries affected, the ERE proposed by the operator affects around 5,500 workers, and it is expected to finally exceed 6,000 layoffs.
