During the presentation of its new Mate 70 and Mate X6 models in China, Huawei lifted the veil on a feature called “AI Teleportation”. And the concept is as simple as it is fun: a gesture in the air is enough to “catch” an image or screenshot and send it to another compatible device.
AirDrop on steroids
Picture the scene: you take a screenshot on your Huawei Mate 70. Rather than going through applications, simply make a simple “pinch” gesture in the air to grab the file, before releasing the contents to a neighboring device. And presto, the image is transferred in the blink of an eye. In a promotional video posted on Weibo, Huawei executives show this feature in action, manipulating their devices with disconcerting fluidity.

For now, the functionality is limited to images and screenshots, but the company does not hide its ambition to extend it to other types of files, such as documents or videos. However, with large files, the experience may be a little less fluid.
The Huawei Mate 70 Pro Plus, spearhead of the range, does not just offer this new sharing method. It combines high-end features: a 6.9-inch OLED LTPO screen, impressive battery life thanks to a 5,700 mAh battery, and ultra-fast charging (100W wired, 80W wireless). On the photo side, Huawei is banking on a 50 megapixel main sensor with a variable aperture, accompanied by a 40 MP ultra wide-angle and a 48 MP telephoto lens.
The Mate X6, for its part, adopts a foldable format similar to that of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold. With a 7.93-inch interior screen and a 6.45-inch exterior, it promises an immersive experience, enhanced by a 5,110 mAh battery and fast charging. Huawei also integrates high-performance photo sensors, including a 50 MP main module.
If “AI Teleportation” is reminiscent of Apple’s AirDrop, Huawei adds a touch of originality with gesture recognition. By combining an advanced motion sensor and artificial intelligence, the company offers a contactless alternative that could appeal to fans of Minority Report. But this exclusivity could be limited to the most recent devices, like the Mate 70, the Mate X6 and the MatePad Pro 13.2 tablet.
It remains to be seen whether this new feature will convince Android users or, better yet, attract curious people from the Apple ecosystem.
