All good things come to an end, and it will soon be the end of Dead Cells. The metroidvania developers have some bad news to tell us. 6 years after the release of the title on PC, but also on mobiles, it will receive its last update. The studio announces on the networks, but also on the game’s Steam product sheet that expansion 35 will indeed be the last. In its post, the studio states:
“After an incredible 5-year collaboration to bring additional content to Dead Cells live-ops, Evil Empire will continue new adventures and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us. This decision is the result of a long consideration, especially after the resounding success of the “Return to Castlevania” DLC last year.”
This situation obviously raises a lot of questions. How will this affect players, and what updates will be maintained? Motion Twin’s goal is not to make his game impractical. The objective is above all to be able to stop the costs as long as the title is appreciated, and not to fall into a mechanic of one-upmanship which would end up no longer making sense or disgusting the players.
“Our commitment to avoiding the trap of “always the same thing” and keeping Dead Cells fresh and original has led us to this point; As we’ve seen with other long-running series, it’s crucial not to overextend and risk diminishing the unique charm that makes Dead Cells a special game for all of us. This change explains the recent period of silence on updates, as entering into such a partnership required careful planning to ensure a smooth process for everyone, including the community.”
After 6 years, the adventure cannot stop suddenly. Motion Twin obviously promises continuity of bug correction updates so that the title is playable for as long as possible. Developers will also need to continue working to bring update 34 and later 35 to mobile so that users have full versions. The studio finally promises related projects to Dead Cells, potentially spin-offs. We remind you that an animated series is being prepared by the company Bobbypills, behind Peepoodo.
“That said, we are committed to continuing the journey in this incredible world with really cool new things outside of the original game, so that more and more people can enjoy Dead Cells in a completely new way.”
The latest expansion is coming
The next update, the famous extension 35, is called “The end is near”, so we could see the news coming. The latter took a slight delay, just like update 34 which should soon arrive on mobiles. The projects are still in progress, nothing will be abandoned, but Motion Twin needs more time to finalize these two releases.
