No need to search the catalog or get lost in algorithmic recommendations: Disney+ has just added a linear chain called “Disney+ Throwbacks” to its offer, accessible from the “Live TV” tab of the platform-in the United States, at least. The principle is simple and resolutely retro: cult cartoons broadcast continuously, 24 hours a day, as in the time of classic TV.
Retro full pot
On the program, a selection of emblematic animated series of the 1990s, notably resulting from the famous block “Disney Afternoon” broadcast on American television during the week after school. We find there La Bande à Pébsou (version 1987), Myster Mask, ICT and TAC, risk rangers, Super Balooor Dougthe boy with a green jacket which has become a symbol of this era.
The chain does not stop there. It also draws in the 2000s with flagship titles like Kim Possible, Lilo & Stitch: the series, Gargoyles, The playground or The band in Dingo. In short, a real designer buffet of cartoons that have marked several generations!
Unlike the experience with classic demand for streaming, Disney+ Throwbacks works like a traditional TV channel: a continuous video flow, without the possibility of choosing the episode or pauses. A choice for nostalgic for zappette, but also to parents who would like to subjected their children how they looked at the cartoons in their time.
And to strengthen vintage immersion, the chain also includes the ancient jingles and dressings of the 1990s, a detail that will not escape lovers of audiovisual madeleines! To avoid weariness, Disney+ announces a regular rotation of programs, with specific special events such as the “Ducktales Treasure Hunting weekend” or a special selection of school around The playground.
This new channel comes at a time when streaming platforms are betting more and more on nostalgia to seduce their subscribers. A strategy that seems to be paying off: from its launch, Disney+ Throwbacks aroused a strong craze on social networks. Some amateurs have canceled their weekend agenda to plant themselves in front of the TV! The new channel is included with the Disney+subscription. And it could give ideas to other streaming services to capitalize on their catalog funds.
