Are you ready to discover a larger-than-life Toothless? If you didn’t know yet, the famous trilogy Dragons from DreamWorks is preparing to receive a live-action remake with great ambitions. With Dean DeBlois – the director of the animated films – at the helm of this new project, suffice to say that fans have high expectations for this feature film. Especially since remakes of the genre are far from having a good reputation after too many attempts by Disney. The interest of these productions is constantly questioned, but that did not prevent DreamWorks and Universal from diving headlong into an adaptation of the adventures of Harold and Toothless. With the year 2025 fast approaching, the film begins to provide some rather reassuring news. After the distribution of a first photo by Empire magazine last weekend, it is now the turn of a first teaser to appear.

This extract of just 1min10 brings together all the elements that spectators expect. In addition to breathtaking settings and epic battle moments, the teaser does not hesitate to reveal the meeting between the young boy and his dragon. Against all expectations, the film teams chose an identical design for the famous creature. No question of playing excessively photorealistic: Toothless therefore retains his cartoonish charm. This double-edged decision is already a source of reactions on the networks. While some applaud the effort to respect the animated trilogy, others see it as a simple copy and paste suggesting lazy production.
DreamWorks and Universal are also taking advantage of this first extract to confirm the release date of the film. As initially announced, live action Dragons will be released in American theaters on June 13, 2025. In France, the appointment should therefore be set for Wednesday June 11.
2025: the year of fans Dragons
The next few months promise to be busy for the DreamWorks franchise. The release of the film will be preceded by the inauguration of the Universal Epic Universe park in Orlando in Florida, which will include a thematic zone dedicated to this universe. From May 22, 2025, visitors to the destination will be able to discover a reproduction of the Island of Berk, accompanied by numerous family and thrilling attractions.
